One of the new breed of environmentally friendly energy suppliers, Green Energy UK supply electricity from 100% green sources, with no need for fossil fuels or nuclear power. The company also encourages customers to become shareholders at no extra cost, which gives you a say in how the company is run. Although Green Energy UK currently don’t pay out any dividends, there’s no liability for shareholder customers either, so you won’t have to worry about being hit by any unexpected bills. On top of that, Green Energy UK also supports the government’s new Feed-In Tariff (FIT), allowing customers to sell home-generated energy back to the company. Green Energy UK’s fuel mix can be broken down as follows:
- Natural Gas 68%
- Renewable 32%
- Coal 0%
- Nuclear 0%
- Other 0%
Although the company obtains electricity from 100% green sources, the high Natural Gas percentage detailed in the company’s energy mix can be confusing at first glance. Rather than fossil fuel gas, this refers to Green Energy UK’s reliance on Combined Heat & Power (CHP) and Anaerobic Digestion to generate electricity. These processes use organically-generated gases to create electricity, with none of the harmful effects of fossil fuel burning.
Tariffs for consumers
Green Energy UK offer two packages for household electricity supply, both of which are 100% environmentally friendly. Common features include payment by Direct Debit and quarterly statements, which can be sent in paper or electronic formats.
Pale Green is the first of the tariffs, which supplies electricity from sources of CHP generation. This process harnesses heat energy that would otherwise be lost, and uses it to create electricity. CHP energy generation is highly efficient and cost effective, as well as being low on carbon emissions. Green Energy UK will also price match your lowest cost regional supplier on this tariff, allowing you to sign up for a green option without paying over the odds.
The second consumer tariff is Deep Green, which supplies you with energy from 100% renewable sources. This means that all your power will come from solar, wind, biomass or hydro-electric generators, which produce electricity with little or no carbon output. This is one of the most environmentally friendly tariffs available in the UK, and although it’s a little more expensive than Pale Green, Green Energy UK claims that the difference only amounts to fifty pence per week on average.
